Ergonomic garden tools and your garden

Gardening Tools

Article by Claire Warrington

Gardening has always been popular and different trends have come and gone over the years. Keeping your own chickens is now the new thing and everyone seems to be buying at least one chicken in order to have their own fresh eggs. Ergonomic garden tools are now extremely popular, not only are there some fantastic tools out there at the moment, there are also some really good ergonomic tools that can considerably reduce the stress and strain placed on the back during gardening and other tasks. Ergonomic simply means a study of human work, ergonomics consider the physical and mental limits of any worker when carrying out manual jobs. The goal of ergonomics is simply to reduce the stress and strain placed upon the body by adapting the work to interact better with the person. Many ergonomic garden tools are made with much longer handles and handles with foam handles, which makes them more comfortable. There are also various attachments that can be fitted to all of your existing tools, meaning you can attach it to the tool you are using at any one particular time. Weight makes a huge difference to a worker and for that reason many of the attachments and tools designed for the ergonomic markets are made of lightweight plastic. If you are wanting to replenish your garden tools and would like to try the ergonomic range, you certainly won't be disappointed. Before you buy, make sure you have a look around and decide exactly what tools you are going to need. You might want to consider the scale of the job in hand and you might want to look over your existing tools and keep any that are more than adequate. You might also want to consider that there are many great attachments out there that can be attached to existing tools that make them both more easy to use and place less stress on the back and other joints. Ergonomic tools have greatly enhanced the lives of many people. Even for those who have no real back problems, ergonomic tools have made such tasks easier and safer. For those that love gardening and have had to stop because of back problems, ergonomic tools have allowed them once again to enjoy their favourite past time.

Gardening Tools question by Lori: Is there a gardening tool like a hoover that I can use in my garden to suck up sand?
I live near the coast and during high winds, well any winds really, I get loads of sand blown into my garden. Because it's then classed as contaminated sand i.e. contaminated with soil and stuff, I have to get rid of it myself, which is very time consuming when I could just be enjoying my garden. I'm wondering if there is any gardening tool, like a leaf blower I suppose, which can be used to suck up sand and leaves etc, which I can then empty in the bin. It would need to be available for purchase in the UK or at least via the net.
