Get Powered Up with Two Popular Gardening Tools

Gardening Tools

Gardening tools come in many varieties with an intended purpose. Garden tools are meant to make gardening easier and more enjoyable. Some people prefer a more hands on approach while others like the idea of using a tool with a little power to make lawn care and gardening go as smoothly and quickly as possible. If you find yourself in the latter group, there two popular power tools on the market designed with you in mind.

Perhaps one of the most popular and widely used of the powered gardening tools is the string trimmer, more commonly referred to as the weed wacker. Weed wackers are designed as an easy means to trim back and eliminate tall weed growth. Weed wackers use a string instead of a blade to trim grass and weeds. An electric weed wacker is powered by a motor located at the opposite end of the trimmer.

The motor is responsible for giving the weed wacker its power. Powered weed wackers can be plugged in, battery charged or run on a mix of gas and oil. A weed wacker should make yard work and gardening less time consuming. When selecting a weed wacker always factor in the weight of the tool. Remember, you will be carrying the weed wacker around the yard and from one end of your garden to the next so opt for one that is light weight.

Another commonly used gardening tool run on power is the rotary tiller, also known as a rototiller. Rototillers are used to cultivate the earth. A series of blades or tines are located on the opposite end of the tool from its handle. Rototillers come in many sizes. Some are attachments on weed wackers, some come with wheels and are push or self-propelled machines and others are towed behind tractors. Rototillers are commonly used to turn the soil before planting gardens or fields. Many handheld attachment rototillers are used to keep pathways and spaces between rows in the garden free of weeds and grass.

Both the weed wacker and rototiller are gardening tools that can be found at home and garden centers, hardware stores, and online.

Garage Storage and Optimization Ideas

Lowe's home improvement expert, Mike Kraft, gives some helpful tips on how to clean and organize your garage. Start with organizing all your items into groups. This could include gardening tools, holiday and seasonal decorations, sports gear, tools, garbage and recycling. Once you have grouped your items, create a map of your garage, making zones for each group. This is the step you want to be sure your most often used items are in easily accessible areas. After you know where to place everything, you can purchase the right storage containers, shelving units and storage racks. Put a garden tools rack by the garage door so you can pick them up on your way to the yard. Try putting sports equipment in clear plastic storage containers and on shelving units. Also, place bikes on hoists so they are out of the way and above your car. Anything that is rarely used, usually holiday decorations, should be put up on high shelves. Finally, place trash and recycling bins close to the house door so you can quickly drop in trash and recyclables.
