Do You Want to Make Your Friends Jealous? You Need These Gardening Tools 25
Gardening Tools
Article by Kiraleizar Perogizen
Many new gardeners only use their hands when they start building their first gardens. It won't take long at all for you to realize how helpful gardening tools will be. You might even start to think that you need to buy one of every tool at your plant store. Try not to give in to temptation. You could end up spending a bunch of money on tools that you do not actually need. Start with a few simple tools that you will use every day and then build your collection piece by piece as you need each tool. You might discover that you don't need to have a bunch of tools, especially if you have a small garden. Begin building your tool store with the tools listed in this article.
No matter what "level" of gardener you are, you are going to want to have some good gardening gloves. Gardening gloves help protect your hands as you work in the dirt and with the plants. While digging in the dirt with your bare hands can be quite satisfying, gloves are often necessary for protection purposes. A good example of this is the way your gloves prevent you from being scratched or stuck by thorns when you work with rosebushes.
Gloves can also protect your hands when you work with compost, fertilizers or other substances that can leave residues on your hands. Wearing gloves also protects you against the various creatures (like bugs) that might inhabit your garden.
Pitchforks are great, even for gardeners who only want to plant small gardens in their yards. The work a pitchfork does can also be done by a trowel or a spade but the pitchfork does it on a much larger scale. They are awesome for aerating your garden soil, moving around your compost and turning the earth in your garden. If you have your own compost pile you will need to have a pitchfork because the pitchfork will help you turn your compost over as it decomposes. If you don't turn the pile regularly it just hardens and becomes useless.
You should invest in a soil tester if one of your goals is to grow a "picky" plant. If the PH balance or nutrient content of the soil is not exactly right-sometimes plants won't grow. You can use your soil tester to confirm that your soil is good enough for the flowers, fruits and vegetables that you want to plant. This is a tool that is only useful to very serious gardeners who grow very serious plants. A good example of someone who needs a soil tester is someone who grows orchids (flowers that are known for requiring very specific growing conditions to thrive). Soil testers are great for crop rotating farmers who need some help in determining which plants should get planted where each year. Many people find gardening to be a good hobby (some even make a living doing it). The more you learn about gardening the more you will want to purchase the tools being sold at your local plant store or gardening department. Don't buy everything right away though, just start with a few basic tools! There are "must haves" and "luxury" gardening tools and the more time you spend gardening the easier it will be to tell the two apart.

a good heavy duty rear tined rototiller will take care of the soil and if you cut the shrubs down to the ground first it will digup the roots if they are not to large. you can probably rent one at a local rental yard for a day and see if it does what you need before you purchase one
